Rotes Fort in Agra

The Red Fort in the northern Indian city of Agra is a fortress and palace complex in the era of the Mogul emperor, and served in the 16th and 17 Century, with interruptions, the residence of the Mughals. It lies on the banks of the Yamuna, is about 2.5 kilometers from the Taj Mahal. How is this even the Red Fort in 1983 in the UNESCO world cultural heritage site. The construction of the fort in 1565 under Akbar the Great, who left the capital city of Delhi embarrassed here, and included among his successors, notably under Shah Jahan, the second Hälfte des 16. und der ersten Hälfte des 17. Nach seiner Machtergreifung 1658 stellte Aurangzeb seinen Vater Shah Jahan im Roten Fort unter Hausarrest, wo dieser 1666 auch starb.

1803 wurde es durch britische Truppen eingenommen. Während des indischen Aufstandes von 1857 war das Fort einer der Orte der bewaffneten Auseinandersetzungen.

The whole plant has a crescent-shaped floor plan and one is 21 meters high wall surrounded the circumference of 2.4 kilometers. The wall is, like most of the enclosed building, constructed in red sandstone. Hence the name of the fort are two main gates, the Delhi Gate and Lahore Gate, grant admission. Inside are prestigious palaces, mosques and several gardens. The architecture combines harmoniously elements of Islamic and Hindu architecture.
