The ruins of Ephesus - the first and greatest metropolis of Asia - are in Turkey, about 3 km from the present town of Selçuk, than to observe the biggest attraction in the Turkish Aegean and allow a vivid insight into the lifestyle of the ancient world. Die erhaltene Ruinenstadt Ephesos stammt vorwiegend aus der römischen Periode zwischen 300 vor Chr. und dem 2. Jh. nach Chr. und wurde im Jahr 1869 beim Bau der Eisenbahnlinie von Izmir nach Aydin eher zufällig vom Engländer John T. Wood entdeckt. Seitdem zählen die ausgegrabenen Ruinen von Ephesos zu den berühmtesten antiken Bauwerken der Welt, die das Reichtum und den Wohlstand des Römischen Empire testify.
