One of the landmarks of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro is the "Sugar". This mountain has been mentioned by the Native Americans "Pan da suka" carrot. The Portuguese later living here understand this as "Pão de Açúcar," probably because the shape of the mountain reminded, in fact, to a sugar loaf. The "Sugar" is a 395 m high mountain of granite rock, located on the Bay of Guanabara. The visitor enters a cable car, which was already used in the James Bond film "Moonraker" with Roger Moore as a backdrop on the mountain.
The glass booths provide a magnificent and outlook. The cable car was built between 1912 and 1913 and is connected to the stop on the Morro da Urca divided into two sections. The cable car is located on the beach at Praia Vermelha. The cable car is daily schedule between 08.00 und 20.00 clock clock running, and the price of a round-trip ticket is about 20 €. Particularly impressive is a sunset from the summit of Sugar Loaf to observe if Rio de Janeiro is bathed in red light.
